Going Native for the week

In honor of the very white, colonial American holiday of Thanksgiving, all posts this week will be about Native Americans (or possibly indigenous populations, generally). I want to see what I can learn about disability issues for American Indians.

Any resources or information anyone has on the topic are welcome here.

Great idea! I've had a few posts that touch a little on this topic in the past year or so:

And the illustration on this one, which was drawn from the Abbe Museum website (a museum "Celebrating Maine's Native American Heritage"):

I can't thank you enough for dedicating this week to telling the truth about my people. I don't think I can express how much it means to see someone focus on the subject of both disability and Native American issues. I think I'm going to give some thought to the intersection between these two aspects of my life and write a post on it. I'd like to link to this post on your blog when I do that, if you don't mind.

By the way, I notice that I'm on your blog roll. What does a girl with Cancer, Lupus, Arthritis and Asthma have to do to qualify for the "Gimp Parade" area?

Penny, I believe that Inuit illustration was the first post I saw at your blog! I love it.

Bint, you're welcome, of course. I'm looking forward to whatever you write on the topic since there seems to be little out there. And all you need to do to make the gimp section of my blogroll is ask -- I try not to presume or out people who don't blatantly say they identify as disabled and I wasn't sure when I added your blog. But I'll move your link right away. :)
