The Liberated 19

First, the tweaking of my blogroll continues since I switched to the new Blogger version in early January (and inadvertantly lost the whole list) and I keep finding gimp sites that were delinked and I've forgotten to relink. For Maude's sake, just last week I realized I had overlooked New Mobility magazine when I rebuilt my blogroll! If you've got a disability blog that used to be linked here, is reasonably active or has good archives, and are no longer linked, please let me know! It's an error, not a dismissal.

Second, when I did switch to the new Blogger version, it began telling me on my dashboard page that I have 19 comments in moderation. Since I've never moderated comments (I delete spam as it shows up and am so far not popular enough for it to be more than a couple per day to archived posts), this has puzzled me. And try as I might, I couldn't make the new improved version of Blogger show me these 19 comments.

Until now! When some random button pushing to turn on comment moderation allowed me to view the comments I am not trying to moderate. Isn't Blogger swell? Anyway, there are 19 comments -- all from May and June of 2006 -- that have finally been freed from their mysterious prison. I apologize to those who made them, especially since some of them merited further discussion or responses I'll be attempting shortly. Go check them out.

Or stay here and mock this delicious comment, one of the Liberated 19:

Dear Lady,
I feel sorry for you...and not for the reasons you think. Your disabilties are of no importance to me. One of my good friends is a quadrapoligic. My sorrow is for your sorrow. You are very angered at all the people who have hurt you over the years. Most articles you have are not for the fight or movement of disabilities yet for the emptiness and loniness of them. I will pray for you and want you to know that if you need someone to chat with please write. My email is apighin@wowway.com and my name is AJ. Have a blessed day and please do not hesitate to write.

Gad, you are being prayed for! And apparently because you do a lousy Tiny Tim imitation. That is so funny! Blue, you bad, bad gimp.

Do you think they were trying to flirt with you? ;-)

Maybe s/he should first learn how to spell the friend's disability.

And praying for you? *groans*

Ah yes...prayed for/prayed over...I can't tell you the number of churchgoers I dissapointed while I was a preacher's wife, since Deity did not decide to heal me straight up....

I've also been accused (when still involved in organized religion) of having weak faith, thus the impairments...but I've never heard of someone praying for someone because they didn't discuss their impairment in some preapproved way....

Dawn, I figured out the real meaning of "quadrapologic" and have explained it at my blog. I'll take alternate definitions, too.

Oh my goodness. Words fail.

I assumed a "quadrapoligic" must be someone who is compelled by neurology to apologize for every error exactly four times. How intensely disabling that must be! Now I see that I am mistaken, though, for surely that would be a "quadrapologist." My bad.

On the other hand, as I reflected upon this it occurred to me that maybe AJ has money as well as prayers and would like to kick in for some trach suction kits or saline bullets. Or maybe while he's praying he'd like to write repeatedly and incessantly, if not always orthographically correctly, to his representatives in Congress demanding a universal healthcare system that will consider patient comfort and safety where possible a necessity worth any price, or at least a core goal, not an elective of purely situational value.

Just a thought. Thoughts alone, sadly, are worth only as much as prayers.

Goldfish: If A.J. is trying to flirt, there needs to be much more flattering of my sorrowful, angry nature. A more romantic appeal to my "loniness," perhaps.

Sara: LOL! You kill me!

OMG... literally.
Sometimes I feel I should pray for the people who feel they should pray for me, unsolicited.
That is, pray that God would forgive their lack of COMMON SENSE!!
And out of the blue on the internet, of all things. At least it's funny!!

Hey - we should all draft an e-mail back to him from the readers of the blog and see what happens!

Jocelyn, what an excellent idea! Here's a stab at it:

Dear Sir,
I feel very sorry for your sorriness for me. It's true, my disability is none of your concern. I too have friends who are disabled. Also friends who are black. And lesbian even. Why I know all sorts of folks!

I don't consider myself sorrowful or particularly angry. Just angry enough to perhaps frighten you into prayer. I worry for you, Sir. If my writing about existing social and political conditions makes you think of sorrow, anger, emptiness and "loniness" I think that our ever chatting as you suggest, might be truly dangerous for your health. And that's a shame, because your pity is such a turn-on I had secretly wished for more.
