As an aside: It is astonishing how many topics I post on fit extremely well into my catch-all category of "windmills and squirrels and etc."

Answer: Though sugar is not very good for them, they like dessert very much and quickly learn where they can expect to find more on a reliable basis.
We will not discuss how I know this. It reflects ill on me as a housekeeper.
I hear they're rather fond of sweets.
Obviously there is a business opportunity here - an entire blog about windmills and squirrels that would rake in the ad revenue...
